MILAN (AP) -- AC Milan says Nigel de Jong's season is over after the Netherlands midfielder underwent successful surgery on a snapped Achilles tendon Tuesday.

De Jong had to be substituted in the 21st minute of Milan's 4-2 victory at Torino on Sunday.

Milan says the operation was "a perfect success'' but that he will be sidelined for "around six months, if there are no complications.''

De Jong has made 15 appearances for Milan, scoring one goal, since joining from Manchester City in the offseason.
