DAGENHAM, England (AP) -- Fourth-tier English club Dagenham & Redbridge says an allegation of racist abuse toward one of its players by an opponent has been reported to the police.

The club says defender Gavin Hoyte made a complaint to the match referee during the 2-1 league win over Rochdale on Saturday, with the incident then reported to the police. The matter has also been reported to the Football Association.

Dagenham & Redbridge says in a statement "the club will fully support Gavin Hoyte during the investigation and has complete faith in his honesty and integrity.''

Saturday's match had been labeled "Daggers Against Racism Family Fun Day.''
