Nottingham Forest says American forward Robbie Findley's contract has been canceled by mutual consent, a move that allows him to return to Major League Soccer.

Findley, a member of the 2010 U.S. World Cup team, left Real Salt Lake after the 2010 season and joined Forest in January 2011.

Now 27, the speedy Findley had three goals in 25 league games for the second-tier team and six goals in 29 games overall. He made just 10 league starts.

Findley, hampered by injuries, was loaned to fourth-tier Gillingham last fall and failed to score in seven appearances.
