Sir Alex Ferguson fined for implying bias by official

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was fined for comments he made after a January match against Tottenham.

LONDON (AP) -- The English Football Association has fined Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson $18,900 for implying a linesman was biased while officiating a game.

After a 1-1 draw at Tottenham last month, Ferguson was angry that linesman Simon Beck didn't award a penalty kick when United was leading 1-0.

Ferguson said during a television interview ''there was no way we were going to get a decision from'' Beck. He cited Beck's 2010 decision to allow a goal by Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, who the manager said was offside.

An FA independent regulatory commission ruled Friday that Ferguson was guilty of misconduct because he ''implied that the match official was motivated by bias.''
