WASHINGTON (AP) -- D.C. United have announced that designated player Hamdi Salihi will not return this season.

Wednesday's announcement was a formality. The Albanian forward has not been in United's plans since a disappointing 2012 in which he started only 10 games and scored six goals in his only season with the club.

United also parted ways with midfielder Lance Rozeboom, a 2012 supplemental draft pick who did not play last year because of a major knee injury.
