UEFA fines Inter Milan $58K, England $1.7 million

NYON, Switzerland (AP) -- UEFA has fined Inter Milan 58,500 for its fans' racist abuse against Tottenham forward Emmanuel Adebayor during a Europa League match, and England was penalized $1.7 million for scheduling clashes during the Champions League.

UEFA's sanction against Inter included charges over other crowd issues, including the club's "insufficient organization'' of the match, plus objects thrown and fireworks lit by fans.

Benfica was also fined $41,600 for crowd incidents against Bordeaux.

UEFA said the disciplinary panel acted against England after "calendar clashes relating to the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons.''

The cash was previously withheld and represents 10 percent of UEFA payments due to the English Football Association for 2010-11. UEFA says the money will be spread among clubs in other countries. Most must be spent on youth training.

The English Football Association was also fined $65,100. English officials were repeatedly warned about league and cup matches clashing with the Champions League.
