Giuseppe Rossi scored his first European goal in more than two years, helping Fiorentina beat Pacos Ferreira 3-0 Thursday night in its Europa League opener.

The 26-year-old forward from New Jersey scored the hosts' final goal in the 76th minute on a left-footed shot from 12 yards, his fourth goal in five matches this season. Gonzalo Rodriguez scored the opening goal in the 30th minute when he headed in Rossi's corner kick.

Rossi tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee playing for Villarreal against Real Madrid in October 2011 and had three operations before returning with Fiorentina on May 19. He had not scored in European play since getting two goals in a Champions League qualifier against Odense on Aug. 23, 2011.

Tottenham won 3-0 at home against Tromso on a pair of first-half goals by Jermain Defoe and a second-half goal by Christian Eriksen, but Mousa Dembele and Danny Rose left with injuries.

Swansea won 3-0 at Valencia on goals by Wilfried Bony, Michu and Jonathan de Guzman. Adil Rami was ejected in the 10th minute for fouling Bony.

"I am so pleased for everybody because now they know they can play against the biggest clubs in the biggest stadiums without any problem,'' said Swansea manager Michael Laudrup, who fielded six Spanish players in his starting lineup - more than Valencia.

Second-division Wigan tied 0-0 ay Belgium's Zulte Waregem.

Valencia fans emptied the stand in the bottom tier behind one of the goals for 10 minutes at the start of the second half protesting a poor start that included three losses in the team's first four La Liga matches.

Bulgaria's Ludogorets Razgrad scored twice in the second half to win 2-0 at PSV Eindhoven.

American forward Aron Johannsson started for AZ Alkmaar in its 1-0 win at Maccabi Haifi, and U.S. forward Terrence Boyd entered in the 63rd minute of Rapid Vienna's 1-0 loss at Thun.
