6 arrested in match-fixing probe in England
LONDON (AP) - Britain's National Crime Agency says six men have been arrested in an English football match-fixing investigation, which focuses on a suspected international betting syndicate.
The arrests follow an investigation by the Daily Telegraph newspaper, which says at least three of the arrested men are footballers.
The Telegraph has published a covertly recorded video in which it alleges a fixer said lower league matches in England could be fixed for 50,000 pounds ($81,380).
The NCA confirmed that ''six men have been arrested across the country as part of an NCA investigation into alleged football match fixing. The focus of the operation is a suspected international illegal betting syndicate.''
The NCA says it working with the Gambling Commission and the English Football Association.
