Staying put Vanney re-signs with Galaxy after Spanish courtship
PASADENA, Calif. (AP) -- U.S. national team defender Greg Vanney re-signed with the Los Angeles Galaxy on Thursday after being courted by Racing Ferrol of Spain's second division. The 26-year-old Vanney has played his entire five-year pro career with Major League Soccer's Galaxy and is one of four players still with the team from its inaugural 1996 season. He signed a short-term extension to his former contract Jan. 15 in order to be eligible for the CONCACAF 2000 Champions Cup. The Galaxy won that tournament, qualifying for the FIFA Club World Championship.
Mutiny sign defender TrittschuhTAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Steve Trittschuh, a former defender on the U.S. national tea, agreed Thursday to a multiyear contract with Major League Soccer and will remain with the Tampa Bay Mutiny. Trittschuh, 35, played in all 32 league games with the Mutiny last seasonb, scoring four goals and one assist while missing only 56 minutes. Trittschuh, a who played for the United States against Czechoslovakia during the Americans' 1990 World Cup opener, has six goals and two assists in two season with Tampa Bay. "We're glad to have a solid veteran like Steve Trittschuh back in the fold," Mutiny president and general manager Bill Manning said. "Steve stepped up his game last season after a lot of people questioned his abilities." Before being traded to Tampa Bay 11 games into the 1999 season, Trittschuh played his first three years in the league with Colorado, becoming the Rapids' career leader in minutes.
