PASADENA, California (AP) -- Santos Cabrera scored early in the second half Wednesday to give El Salvador a 1-0 victory against Guatemala and propel them to the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup soccer tournament.

South Korea also advances to the next stage of the competition after holding Cuba to a 0-0 tie in the second game of Gold Cup double header at the Rose Bowl.

Cuba and South Korea each earn a point from their tie. But South Korea advances because it scored one goal in the tournament, whereas Cuba failed to score.

South Korea had the best chance to break the scoreless tie in the 89th minute. But an unmarked Lee Young-Pyo kicked a weak 14-yard shot that deflected off defender Lazaro Dalcourt.

In the El Salvador-Guatemala match, Cabrera scored in the 58th minute on a 5-meter (16-yard) shot inside the left post, while goalkeeper Santos Rivera made seven saves to earn the shutout.

Guatemalan starting defender Denis Chen did not play because of a one-game suspension for receiving a red card Monday night against Mexico.

South Korea will now face Mexico, and El Salvador meets the United States, in Sunday's quarterfinal doubleheader, also at the Rose Bowl.
