Canadian coach, team fined Posted: Tuesday January 29, 2002 12:13 PMRick Lawes, director of communications for CONCACAF, said Canada coach Holger Osieck was fined for "acting disrespectfully toward game officials as well as match officials on the bench and in the technical area." Following the match, Lawes said, there was a report made to the federation and tournament organizers that the Canadian team destroyed locker room property at the Orange Bowl. "The Canadian Soccer Association was fined $5,000, as was the coach," Lawes said Monday. "I have been told the association is appealing its fine. It will be reviewed by the disciplinary committee for the Gold Cup." Osieck and other representatives of the Canadian team weren't available for comment Monday. Despite the loss to Ecuador, Canada will meet the United States in the Gold Cup semifinals Wednesday night at the Rose Bowl after Costa Rica faces South Korea. The championship match will be played Saturday between the winners following a third-place match between the losers.
