DENVER (AP) -- Chris Klein tied the game in the first half and the Kansas City Wizards held on for a 1-1 tie with the Colorado Rapids on Friday night to clinch a berth in the MLS playoffs.

Kansas City (9-10-9), which needed a win or tie to qualify for the playoffs, managed only eight shots, five in the first half.

Mark Chung scored for Colorado (13-11-4), which had already clinched a postseason berth. The tie was costly for the Rapids, who needed a victory to gain home-field advantage for the their first-round matchup with the Dallas Burn.

Colorado didn't have a shot until the 26th minute when Chung scored his 11th goal of the season.

Klein tied it in the 34th minute with a shot between the legs of goalkeeper David Kramer.

John Spencer of Colorado had the lone shot in the first overtime. His shot from 20 yards sailed wide right in the last 10 seconds.

Two minutes into the second overtime the Rapids had another chance, but Seth Trembly's header went over the crossbar.
