ATLANTA (CNNSI.com) -- New England Revolution all-time scoring leader Joe-Max Moore is set to return to the team after signing a contract with Major League Soccer on Tuesday that will tie him to the club though the 2003 season.

Details of the contract were not disclosed.

"A lot of things had to be worked out in order to return Joe-Max to New England," Revolution director of soccer Renato Capobianco said. "I'm glad we were able to add a person that will raise both the level of the team and the individual players in his new era with the Revolution."

The three-time Revolution Most Valuable Player ('96, '98, '99) spent the last three years ('00-'02) playing for English Premier League club Everton, where he netted 10 goals in the 37 games that he played with the first team (league and cup matches).

The Revolution did not have a player allocation at their disposal, and a league official said teams were offered Moore's rights in reverse order of their 2002 finish. The runner-up Revolution apparently were the first team willing -- or able, under the salary cap -- to sign Moore.

"He has proven to be a natural goalscorer with plenty of national and international experience," Revolution head coach Steve Nicol said. "Pairing him atop with Taylor [Twellman] or Wolde [Harris] will give us one of the most dangerous front lines in the league."

The 1999 MLS All-Star selection joined the Revs for the first time in July 1996 after spending time with German Bundesliga clubs Nürnberg and Saarbrucken. In his first year, Moore hit 11 goals and recorded one assist with the Revs, earning the team's scoring crown.

During the following seasons ('97-99), the hard-working striker scored 26 goals in a Revolution uniform, leading the team to its first playoff appearance in 1997. He recorded 26 assists in his four years with the franchise.

"I'm thrilled to be back in New England," Moore said. "It's a place that I consider home because of all the great moments that I've had here with the Revs and the National team, thanks to the fantastic fans of the area.

"I'm ready to work hard and give my best to the team to try to surpass last year's success and win MLS Cup 2003."

The three-time World Cup veteran has 100 caps with the United States national team, having netted 24 goals since his first appearance in 1992. He is ranked second in the all-time scoring count behind former Revs forward Eric Wynalda (34 goals).

His most memorable goal was the game-winner against the Jamaican national team in October 2001 at Foxboro Stadium, that qualified the United States National team to the 2002 World Cup.
