LIVERPOOL, England (Reuters) -- United States striker Brian McBride is to return to Major League Soccer (MLS) side Columbus Crew from Everton after the Premier League club failed to agree terms on an extended deal.

Everton's game with Arsenal on Sunday will be McBride's last, manager David Moyes confirmed on Thursday.

The 30-year-old forward scored four goals in eight appearances during a three-month loan with the premier league side.

"We are sorry to lose him and he will be missed," Moyes told the club's official Web site.

"He has done extremely well, exactly what we had hoped for, if not better when we signed him. He has scored four goals in eight games, which is a good record for any player in the Premier League."

McBride also spent eight months on loan at Moyes' previous club Preston from September 2000 to May 2001.

"I remember when I came here a year ago, one of the things I questioned was commitment and attitude, but those are qualities Brian has in abundance," Moyes said.

McBride's contract with the Crew runs until 2005.

Moyes said last week: "Because of Brian's age -- and I have spoken to Brian about this -- I don't want to spend too much money on bringing him here, but I am also very aware he has played a big part in what we have done in the last couple of months."

Everton is in fifth place in the English Premier League.
