WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. defender Eddie Pope will miss this month's FIFA Confederations Cup and will be doubtful for the CONCACAF Gold Cup in July fracturing his left kneecap.

Pope, who underwent a scan on Monday, is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks, the U.S. Soccer Federation said on Tuesday.

Pope took a knock during his New York/New Jersey MetroStars 1-1 draw with Columbus at the weekend.

A veteran of two World Cup finals squads, Pope has won 57 caps and scored five goals for the U.S.

Uncapped St Pauli defender Cory Gibbs will take Pope's place at the U.S. team training camp this week in Washington, before the Americans' final warmup match against New Zealand on Sunday in Richmond, Virginia.
