CARSON, California (AP) -- Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Mauricio Cienfuegos and defender Hong Myung-Bo were chosen Thursday as commissioner's picks to the Major League Soccer All-Star team.

The All-Star game will be played Aug. 2 at The Home Depot Center against the Mexican club team Chivas.

"These two players represent, both on and off the field, everything that is good about our League," Garber said. "Mauricio is a 'founding father' of MLS whose class has been evident since the first day he put on a Galaxy uniform. As the first Korean to play in MLS, Hong is also a pioneer, and we are pleased to add his world class talents to the MLS All-Star squad."

Cienfuegos, who played in the league's first six All-Star games, has announced that he will retire at the end of the season. Hong, a former South Korean national team player, is in his first season in the MLS.

The players, chosen by Don Garber, will join 16 others selected July 9. An additional group of 16 players is scheduled to be chosen Friday to serve as a pool of possible replacements for injured players and former MetroStars goalkeeper Tim Howard, who transferred this week to Manchester United.
