Profile
Left-back Numan left Dutch football in the summer of 1998 to try his luck with Rangers in Scotland. Despite injury problems he has proved to be an outstanding player, driving forward from the left side of defence. It was the third time in his career that he had teamed up with Dick Advocaat, the two having previously been united at Haarlem and PSV Eindhoven. His six-year stay in Eindhoven earned him a league winners medal in 1997 and a Dutch Cup winners medal the previous year. Numan was a regular at World Cup 98 during the run to the semi-finals, but broke his ankle before Christmas and missed the rest of the campaign. This season though, he has been a major influence in the Gers' emphatic defence of their league title.
