Profile
Along with all of his defensive colleagues, the Basque left-back was outstanding during France's victorious 1998 World Cup campaign. He started out with Bordeaux in 19897 and was part of the side that went all the way from the InterToto Cup to the UEFA Cup final in 1995/96. His performances against Bayern Munich in the final brought him to the Bavarian club's attentions and, after a spell with Athletic Bilbao, he moved to the Bundesliga in 1997. Lizarazu has confirmed his reputation in Germany, helping Bayern reassert their authority as the country's top club. Never afraid to venture forward, Lizarazu has just passed his half-century of caps and at 30 years of age he has a few good seasons left in the locker.
