Profile
Leboeuf was born in the south of France in Marseille but made his name in the north during five seasons with Strasbourg. He scored 40 league goals during that time, a trend he has continued in England. Little known in England when Chelsea paid £2.5million for him in July 1996, he has proved to be a reliable defender and a superb long passer, able to set Zola and co off with his accurate balls from the back. Famously took the place of Laurent Blanc in the 1998 World Cup final, forming a partnership with Marcel Desailly that has also served Chelsea so well in recent seasons. Since making his debut in 1995, his chances have been limited by the Blanc-Desailly combination and the bench beckons again this summer.
