After five success-filled seasons at the San Siro he moved to Stamford Bridge for £4.6million in June 1998, after helping France win the World Cup. Forms a solid defensive wall with Laurent Blanc for Les Bleus, while his all-French partnership with Frank Leboeuf at Chelsea has helped the Blues make an impact in European competitions.
