| Profile |
| With over 100 caps for his country Maldini is still one of the greatest full-backs in the world. A virtual regular for the national side in the last decade, Maldini even appeared in Euro '88.
He was part of the great AC Milan side of the late 1980's and early 1990's that dominated European football, winning three European Cups. Along with Tassotti, Baresi and Costacurta he formed one of the all-time great defences. Maldini made his debut for AC Milan in 1985 at the age of just 16 and has stayed with the 1998/99 Serie A winners ever since.
The new Milan coach Albert Zaccheroni has also used Maldini as a central defender but the 31-year-old adapted to his new role well. Known for his forays upfield Maldini is likely to play a crucial role in Italy's Euro 2000 campaign.
