| Profile |
| French World Cup winner Vieira was born in Dakar, Senegal, but moved to his adopted country at a very young age. He signed for French side Cannes in 1993, before a dream move to AC Milan in 1995.
Still only a teenager he failed to make an impact in Serie A, before Arsene Wenger paid £4million for him in 1996. At Highbury he has blossomed into a top-class midfielder, with seemingly endless energy in both defence and attack.
As well as being a fluent, creative ball player, the giant midfielder is one of the strongest tacklers in the game, which can sometimes spill over and has led to a number of red cards with the Highbury side.
He earned a World Cup winner's medal in 1998 and, despite the presence of Deschamps, has become a more regular member of the starting line-up of coach Lemerre.
