Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem plays its home games at the impressively modern Gelredome, but Turkey and Italy will step into its shoes as Arnhem, the Netherlands, turns its attention to the international scene on June 11 for the Euro 2000 championship tournament. Home club Vitesse Arnhem finished fourth in the Netherlands' top division last season playing in the Gelredome. The 30,000 all-seater venue is still in its infancy after opening as recently as 1998.
It possesses a retractable roof weighing 800 tons and a retractable pitch that can take up to five hours to roll out. The state of the art ground features a modern ventilation system, which allows the stadium to be heated in the winter and kept cool in the summer months. Arnhem:The exuberant city of Arnhem is the capital of the Gelderland region in the east of the Netherlands. Shopping is a popular attraction with a blend of major shopping centers and smaller, obscure lanes enticing those with dispensable incomes. Elsewhere, one of the world's largest collections of Vincent Van Gogh's art can be found in the Kroller Muller Museum. For a livelier experience locals and tourists alike swarm to the Korenmarkt with its proliferation of pavement cafes. Arnhem is a typical Dutch city famous for its cafes, museums and bells and the Eusebius tower boasts the largest chimes in Europe. The Kroeller museum displays an impressive collection of Van Gogh and Mondrian's work.
