Feyenoord's traditional Rotterdam home, Feyenoordstadion, is known as "De Kuip" ("The Tub") and will host the Euro 2000 final on July 2. The 50,000 capacity venue was completed in 1937 but has been enhanced with a retractable roof and a heated playing surface to counteract Rotterdam's frequent downpours. The Feyenoord stadium is no stranger to high-profile matches having hosted two European Cup finals in the past. Feyenoord's arch-rival Ajax Amsterdam won the first of these finals some 28 years ago, in 1972.
The stadium empties in 10 minutes, courtesy of an amazing system of entries and exits, making it a safer place to watch a match. Rotterdam:Rotterdam is the second largest city in the Netherlands. Situated on the River Meuse, it is renowned as the world's biggest port and boasts an array of modern architecture. The city is poised to become the European Capital of Culture in 2001 and a variety of museums, theaters and festivals justify this honor. With the finale to Euro 2000 taking place in the De Kuip Stadium, Rotterdam will be a vibrant setting this summer.
