90 +4' - The final whistle brings an open and entertaining game to an end. Brazil advances to the second round with three wins as Group C winner. Turkey's win means Costa Rica is out despite its impressive performance.
90 +3' - Turkey has beaten China, 3-0. Costa Rica presses forward regardless, winning a corner and then the lively Wanchope forces Marcos to block at the near post.
90 +2' - Cafu picks up the first booking of the game for a clumsy challenge.
86' - Marcos dives to block out Bryce, who had nutmegged Anderson Polga. The ball falls loose to Wanchope who beats the last defender and fires a rising shot but it comes back off the crossbar.
83' - Ronaldo pokes the ball past Lonnis but, with Wright on the line, the angle seems too narrow for the shot. Ronaldo turns and cheekily tries anyway and the ball bounces off the post into Lonnis' hands.
81' - Junior needs treatment after a late tackle from Lopez. He's lucky not to pick up a yellow card.
79' - Great skills from Kaka, keeping possession between four Costa Rican players, but Cafu is just offside as he tries to play him in down the right.
77' - Matching Brazil for movement and passing, Costa Rica plays in Fonseca six yards out right of goal but he drags his shot narrowly wide.
75' - Brazil has five players lined up along the Costa Rican penalty area. Playing it from one to the next, it finally reaches Kaka but his shot is blocked.
73' - Parks replaces the impressive Martinez for Costa Rica.
71' - Kaka, the youngest member of Brazil's squad, is on for Rivaldo.
70' - Gilberto Silva miskicks horribly inside his own six-yard box and the ball bounces off the inside of the post. Marcos is beaten and grounded, but he manages to get a foot on it ahead of Costa Rica's advancing forwards and Brazil clears the danger.

Second Half
45 +2' - Referee Ghandour of Egypt blows for halftime. Brazil leads Costa Rica, 3-1.
45' - Brazil wins a freekick on right corner of box. Rivaldo curls it perfectly past a seven-man wall but it clips the bottom of the left post and bounces away.
44' - Brilliant skills from Ronaldo to make space for a cross from the left, presenting Rivaldo with a clear chance from edge of six-yard box, but the Barcelona man's volley flies over the bar.
38' - GOAL TO COSTA RICA! Wanchope plays a back-heeled one-two with Wright and shoots past Marcos from close range.
38' - GOAL TO BRAZIL! A spectacular strike from Edmilson, twisting backwards to hit a flamboyant overhead kick into the top right corner. The central defender had started the move, running through midfield and combining with Rivaldo before continuing his run to get on the end of the deflected cross from the left.
34' - Wanchope runs at Lucio, winning a corner. Marcos comes out a long way to make a good catch and launches a Brazilian break. But Ronaldo waits too long on the ball and Brazil is caught offside.
32' - Wallace concedes a freekick for handball on left edge of box. Rivaldo finds Gilberto Silva at far post but he blasts wildly over the bar.
31' - Gomez has a header at far post but he get's underneath it and another chance is gone.
30' - Gomez's persistant running earns a Costa Rican corner. Brazil don't look comfortable on the crosses and it's deflected for another corner.
28' - Anderson Polga concedes another Costa Rican corner. Centeno's cross is met by Wright but he sends a free header high over the bar.
25' - Dominating possession, Brazil starts trying some tricks. Juninho and Edilson play a series of one-twos through the Costa Rican midfield but Costa Rica manages to break up the move on the edge of the box.
24' - Rivaldo bends a shot to the top corner. It should be a comfortable catch for Lonnis but it slips through his hands and out for a corner. Brazil tries a short one but they're caught offside.
23' - Junior dragged down by Wallace, winning a freekick on left edge of box.
21' - Anderson Polga gets a head on Gomez's swinging cross from right to concede a Costa Rican corner. Edmilson heads the ball away.
16' - Costa Rica wins a corner but it's punched away by GK Marcos.

12' - GOAL TO BRAZIL! A corner falls short to Ronaldo. He's surrounded by five Costa Rica defenders but he squirms free, putting the ball through Wallace's legs, and beats Lonnis at near post. The Brazilian No. 9 keeps up his record of scoring in every game.
9' - GOAL TO BRAZIL! Edilson runs onto a chipped ball down left and delivers a low cross to the front post. Ronaldo is waiting but Marin stretches a leg in front of him as he shoots and deflects the ball into the net for an own goal.
7' - Costa Rica wins a corner from a deflected freekick. Brazil half-clears but the ball is quickly returned into the box. Wrighthas a free header 10 yards in front of goal but but he can't direct it on target.
6' - Rivaldo makes his first contribution, beating his man just inside the box but he loops a cross to the far post and Lonnis claims it.
2' - Edilson starts brightly with two early runs down the right but the final crosses are comfortable for GK Lonnis.
