Argentina's Juan Sebastian Veron Posted: Thursday May 23, 2002 1:57 PMUpdated: Thursday May 23, 2002 2:19 PM
He is known as la brujita (the little witch) for the way he glides across the pitch as if he were riding a broom. He can scare opponents too, with his magical dribbling skills, elusive dummies and powerful free kicks. Meet Juan Sebastian Veron, the player who will be pulling the strings in the Argentine midfield. He has been a star wherever he has played -- at Boca Juniors, Sampdoria, Parma, Lazio and now Manchester United. There is no doubt that he is Argentina's engine, working on overdrive to create chances for the side's striker, whoever he may be... Gabriel Batistuta or Hernan Crespo. Veron was one of the main reasons why Argentina easily won the South American qualifying group, scoring five goals and assisting on many more. He now hopes he can have the last laugh at the World Cup finals in Asia as well. World Sport, the sports news show that airs on CNN International, previewed many of the individuals expected to shine at the World Cup.
