Twenty-nine hours, three planes, six meals (three of which were consumed simply out of boredom) and an incredibly lame accreditation photo later, World Sport (including anchor Pedro Pinto, above) is in Seoul. We began coverage from the rooftop of our hotel, The Grand Hyatt, which offers a spectacular view of the city. This in itself was a bit of a score, as rooftop access anywhere in the city is a major concern to the intense security presence. Our hotel is housing many FIFA delegates, and there is a very polite but thorough inspection of everyone who enters. Each floor of the hotel even has its own security team, making each night's sleep a bit more relaxing.

More of an own goal would be communication. Only one of my five pre-opening match assignments went according to plan. I can see the place we're meant to go from the hotel room, but getting there could take an hour due to traffic -- it almost makes you miss Atlanta's infamous roadways. But as you get used to your new environment, it seems to get used to you as well.

Thank goodness the matches are under way.

Cheers for now,

Joe McCurdy,
World Sport
