Venue information

Gwangju, also known as Kwangju, is located 329 kilometers (203 miles) southwest of Seoul and is home to the annual Kimchi festival, which celebrates the traditional Korean dish of fermented and pickled vegetables.

Gwangju is Korea's fifth-largest city with a population of 1.3 million.

The soccer-only stadium opened Nov. 13, 2001.

The open design of the $120 million complex seems to bring the sky and surrounding mountains right onto the playing field.

Spain takes on Slovenia in a Group B match on June 2, while China meets Costa Rica in a Group C match here on June 4.
