Venue information

The striking stadium, venue for two first-round matches and one in the second, is shaped in an asymmetrical arc modeled on the moon-shaped crest from the helmet of 17th century samurai warrior Masamune Date.

It is located north of Tokyo, 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the center of Sendai City, in an area renowned for hot springs and rice and other agricultural products. Miyagi stadium has been used primarily for national track and field meets and J-League All-Star and championship matches.

The venue is the site of two first-round matches -- Ecuador vs. Mexico and Sweden vs. Argentina -- and a match in the round of 16.
