Venue information

Located just north of Tokyo, 9 kilometers (5.5 miles) from the center of Urawa City, the soccer stadium was designed with the environment in mind, using channeled rainwater to water the grass, and solar panels allowing it to conserve energy during the daytime. The stadium also has two nurseries and 1,300 toilets -- more than any of Japan's other venues.

Problems with the field's surface during a Japan-Italy friendly in November 2001 had prompted stadium officials to consider replanting the grass before the World Cup. Recently, the stadium has been used for Japan-South Korea youth soccer matches promoting friendship between the co-host nations.
