Venue information

The stadium will host the opener of the World Cup, in which defending champion France will play against Senegal. The US$157 million stadium was opened Nov. 10, 2001.

The stadium, 10 kilometers (6 miles) west of the city center, will also host a semifinal and Group C preliminary match between China and Turkey on June 13. It is billed as Asia's biggest soccer-only stadium.

The stadium is 47 kilometers (29 miles) from Incheon International Airport.

The architectural design symbolizes a combination of Korean shield kites and octagonal serving trays, while the curving lines of the roof reflect traditional Korean architectural designs.

 

Seoul is the capital and home to almost a quarter of South Korea's 48 million people. Once a quiet fishing village, Yokohama is now a major port with a population of 3.4 million. Site of the 2001 Confederations Cup final.

The stadium, located 6 kilometers (4 miles) from the city center, will also host three first round matches.
