Venue information

Suwon, 44 kilometers (27 miles) south of Seoul, is the seat of populous Kyonggi province surrounding Seoul. The city hosted several matches during the 2001 Confederations Cup. The stadium was opened May 13, 2001.

The soccer-only stadium is 1 kilometer (0.62 miles) from the city center.

The $192 million stadium is 96 kilometers (59 miles) from Incheon International Airport.

The stadium was jointly built by Korea's Samwoo Construction Co. and the French construction company, Societe de conception d'architecture et d'urbanisme, which built Saint-Denis Stadium in France -- site of the 1998 World Cup final.

The design borrowed its theme from the ancient Suwon Fortress. The traditional curved roofs found in Korean architecture combine to form a majestic covering for the stadium.
