Bordeaux is known throughout the world for its fine wine. The area produces more than 500 million bottles of wine per year. During the finals, visitors will get a chance to sample the products along the banks of the Garonne. It is interesting to note t
hat the English developed the wine trade when they occupied the region from the 12th to 15th century. The town was also a major commerce center during the Roman era. The city is now home to 214,000 residents, 697,000 with the outlying areas counted. It is
also the site of a large university with 60,000 students.
