Heerenveen gets 2-1 win on road PSV Eindhoven falls out of first place with lossPosted: Saturday August 29, 1998 05:38 PM AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) -- Ajax Amsterdam seized its second victory of the new season Friday, downing Roda JC Kerkrade 2-0 with a little help from Roda's Australian goalkeeper Zeljko Kalac. After a messy first half Ajax winger Peter Hoekstra broke the deadlock on 56 minutes after Kalac rushed out to claim a corner but misjudged his jump and was left groping helplessly for the ball. Roda created some chances but wasted them with wild shooting and Tijani Babangida decided the game in Ajax's favor with just seven minutes left on the clock. The tiny Nigerian winger had recovered all his pace after a recent injury layoff, and his acceleration near the righthand corner of the penalty area left Roda deenders standing. Babangida's dipping near-post drive caught Kalac again out of position and he could only parry the ball into his own net. Champion Ajax now heads the Dutch premiership with six points from two games but all the other sides play their second matches Saturday and Sunday.
