LONDON (AP) -- Defending titlist Real Madrid surrendered the lead and tumbled 2-1 to Spartak Moscow in the second round of Champions Cup group games Wednesday.

The Spanish powerhouse failed to follow up its 2-0 victory over Inter Milan in the opening round of games as Spartak moved three points clear of its two biggest group rivals to become the only one of the 24 contenders with maximum points from two games.

Inter edged Sturm Graz 1-0 thanks to a strike by French striker Youri Djorkaeff four minutes into stoppage time so that it is tied at three points with Real in the Group C standings.

A late blunder by Danish goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel handed Bayern Munich a 2-2 draw with Manchester United in Group D as Barcelona moved to the top of the group with a 2-0 victory over Brondby, ironically of Denmark.

Schmeichel collided with teammate Jaap Stam and Brazilian forward Elber was able to score his second goal of the game in the dying minutes. After two draws, United has two points behind Barcelona (four) and Brondby (three) and Bayern has one.

Romanian veteran Gheorghe Hagi netted an stoppage-time winner as Galatasaray moved to the top of Group B with a 2-1 victory over Athletic de Bilbao in Istanbul. He also set up the first for Okan Buruk.

Italian powerhouse Juventus was held to a 1-1 draw by Norway's Rosenborg despite taking the lead through Filippo Inzaghi.

Another late strike, by Ajax forward Jari Litmanen, gave his team a 2-1 victory over FC Porto in Group A and put him into the club's record books with 24 goals.

The Finnish forward's 86th minute penalty put him ahead of Johann Cruyff as the Amsterdam club's leading scorer in the competition.

Greek club Olympiakos scored a 2-0 victory over Croatia Zagreb and joins Ajax with four points atop the standings.

Tony Adams missed an early header but then fired Arsenal ahead at Wembley as the Gunners downed Panathinaikos of Athens 2-1 to top Group E. Dynamo Kiev and Lens tied 1-1 so that Panathinaikos is second on three points having beaten Kiev two weeks ago.

Germany's Kaiserslautern remained on top of Group F despite dropping points in a 0-0 draw with HJK Helsinki. Benfica is tied with PSV Eindhoven with three points after beating the Dutch team 2-1 in Lisbon.

Group A

Ajax 2, Porto 1

Polish midfielder Andrzej Rudy gave the Amsterdam powerhouse a 1-0 lead before Zlatko Zahovic equalized for Porto. But Litmanen scored his record-breaking goal four minutes from the end.

Olympiakos 2, Croatia Zagreb 0

Alexios Alexandris fired Olympiakos ahead in the 22nd minute from an assist by Sinisa Gogic to send 70,000 cheering Greek fans wild, After goalkeeper Dimitris Eleftheropoulos averted the equalizer with a spectacular save from Silvio Maric, Gogic dribbled past goalkeeper Goran Juric for the second.

Group B

Galatasary 2, Athletic de Bilbao 1

Hagi set up the opening goal in the 16th minute with a powerful free kick that rebounded off Spanish goalkeeper Imanol Etxebarria and Okan Buruk bulleted the ball into the net. Ismail Urzaiz leveled a minute later but Hagi curled in a free kick in the 91st minute.

Rosenborg 1, Juventus 1

Didier Deschamps took advantage of a rebound from Rosenborg's Roar Strand in the box and Filippo Inzaghi netted in the 27th. When Strand was upended in the area, Bent Skammelsrud leveled from the spot in the 69th but he missed another spot kick 10 minutes later.

Group C

Spartak Moscow 2, Real Madrid 1

Real Madrid striker Raul headed in a rebound after Clarence Seedorf had fired against the post to give Real a 64th minute lead. Ilya Tsymbalar leveled with a curling free kick 12 minutes later and Igor Titov fired Spartak's winner eight minutes from the end to delight the home fans in a near-full 86,000-seater Luzhniki stadium.

Inter Milan 1, Sturm Graz 0

Youri Djorkaeff netted the winner in the fourth minute of injury time after Inter, playing without injured strike stars Ronaldo and Roberto Baggio, had struggled against a modest opponent which is pointless after two games.

Group D

Barcelona 2, Brondby 0

Brazilian forward Sonny Anderson put Barcelona ahead in the 44th minute, seizing on a ball that had been deflected twice by Brondby defenders. He struck again five minutes from the end, heading in after a powerful shot from fellow Brazilian Rivaldo had been blocked by Brondby goalkeeper Mogens Krogh.

Bayern Munich 2, Manchester United 2

Brazilian forward Elber side-footed Bayern ahead in the 12th minute from a suspiciously offside position after a series of passes in front of the United goal. Dwight Yorke headed home David Beckham's cross for the equalizer and Paul Scholes ran through the middle to fire United ahead three minutes into the second half

United looked set to hold on for the three points until goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel collided with his own defender, Jaap Stam, and Elber scored in an unguarded net.

Group E

Arsenal 2, Panathinaikos 1

Tony Adams fired in a 65th minute shot after goalkeeper Jozef Wandzik failed to hold on to a corner. Martin Keown's glancing header from a corner by Petit made it 2-0 but Brazilian substitute Mauro headed a late reply for Panathinaikos.

Dynamo Kiev 1, Lens 1

Andriy Shevchenko headed home a 61st minute corner after Lens goalkeeper Guillaume Warmuz blundered in failing to catch the cross. A minute later Tony Vairelles leveled on a counter attack with the Kiev defenders upfield and stranded.

Group F

Benfica 2, PSV Eindhoven 1

Two minutes into the second half, Nuno Gomes received the ball from Hugo Leal on the edge of the penalty area and beat a Dutch defender before chipping the ball over goalie Ronald Waterreus. Waterreus saved Gomes' 70th-minute penalty after Mark Pembridge was fouled in the area and Dennis Rommedahl replied for the Dutch team two minutes later. Joao Pinto dribbled through in the 79th minute for Benfica's winner.

HJK Helsinki 0, Kaiserslautern 0

Goalkeeper Andreas Reinke starred for Kaiserslautern, capping a great performance with a splendid save in overtime, turning away a hard shot from Mika Lehkosuo just inside the post.
