A knee injury has kept Vieri out of Italy's Euro 2000 qualifier Saturday against Switzerland David Cannon/Allsport

ROME (AP) -- Italy and Lazio of Rome striker Christian Vieri will not undergo surgery to repair his injured left knee, the Serie A club announced Saturday, and he will be sidelined at least another three weeks.

The 25-year-old World Cup star has been out since hurting knee ligaments 15 minutes into Lazio's 2-0 win over second-division Cosenza in a September 23 Italian Cup match.

The injury kept Vieri out of Italy's Euro 2000 qualifier Saturday against Switzerland.

He has yet to score for Lazio since joining the club on a US$30 million transfer from Spain's Atletico Madrid. He tallied five goals in as many games for Italy at the World Cup.
