Dahlin joined Blackburn at the beginning of last season but has failed to make the expected impact in the English game Simon Bruty/Allsport

BLACKBURN, England (Reuters) -- Blackburn Rovers's Swedish striker Martin Dahlin is set to join German first division side Hamburg SV on loan until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old Dahlin is unhappy at the premier league club after being relegated to fourth choice striker since the signing of Kevin Davies in the summer.

Blackburn chief executive John Williams said Wednesday: "We are in discussions with Hamburg over Martin Dahlin going out on loan but nothing has been finalized."

Dahlin joined Blackburn from AS Roma in a two million pounds (US$3.40 million) deal at the start of last season but has failed to make the expected impact in the English game.

Manager Roy Hodgson admitted he has known for some weeks that Dahlin wanted a move.

"When I left him out of the team earlier this season and he wasn't on the bench when all four of my strikers were fit he said to me he couldn't stay here as the fourth striker," said Hodgson.

"I said I wanted to keep him here but he's a quality player and will not want to spend the final years of his career behind two others."

Dahlin is no stranger to German soccer after two spells with Borussia Moenchengladbach during which he scored 50 goals in 106 games.
