WOLVERHAMPTON, England (AP) -- Mark McGhee was fired Thursday as manager of struggling Division One side Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wolves have won just two of their last 12 games and lie 11th in the first division standings.

McGhee, a Scot, joined Wolves from Leicester in 1995. He twice led the club to the playoffs and last season's FA Cup semifinal but he never managed to win promotion to the Premier League.

Colin Lee, McGhee's assistant manager, was named caretaker boss at Molineux. The club has not set a timetable on the appointment of a full-time successor.

Managing director John Richards said McGhee was leaving by mutual consent.

"We all agreed that it would be in the interests of the club to make this joint decision," Richard said. "Mark fully understood the position and the meeting ended amicably."
