UEFA Cup

Final venues won't be moved for same-country UEFA clashes

GENEVA, Switzerland (AP) -- UEFA said Wednesday it won't change the venues for this season's UEFA Cup and Champions Cup finals even if both finalists come from the same country.

The two Italian teams left in the Champions Cup - Juventus and Inter Milan - avoided each other in the draw for the quarterfinals.

Teams from only three countries - Italy, France and Spain - make up the quarterfinal field of the UEFA Cup, and Wednesday's draw produced no same-country pairings.

Whichever teams make the finals, they will play the match as scheduled at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on May 12, UEFA said in a statement.

It said it wanted "to avoid any speculation at any time that, should the two finalists belong to one of the three national associations which still have participants in the UEFA Cup, the final would be moved to that country."

The same goes for the Champions Cup final, which will take place May 26 at Barcelona's Camp Nou, UEFA said.

Last season's UEFA Cup final, in which Inter Milan beat fellow Italian team Lazio 3-0, was played in Paris.
