LONDON, England (AP) -American goalkeeper Ian Feuer helped non-league Rushden and Diamonds hold mighty Leeds to a 0-0 tie in the FA Cup on Saturday.

The New England Revolution goalkeeper, making his debut while on a temporary contract, superbly kept out a low shot from Leeds' Australian striker Harry Kewell midway through the second half as the team from the Conference league forced a lucrative replay with the high-flying Premier League club.

The only upset on a day when several looked likely, was at Nottingham Forest which lost 1-0 at home to struggling division one Portsmouth.

Without suspended Dutch striker Pierre van Hooijdonk, Forest failed to win for the 19th game in a row as Steve Claridge fired the cash-strapped south coast team to a famous victory and a place in the fourth round.

Division two Fulham and division three Swansea were all denied upsets away from home by late equalizers by their Premier League opponents while Crystal Palace led 10-man Newcastle at St. James' Park before losing 2-1.

Southampton trailed Fulham from the ninth minute after Steve Hayward's early strike for Kevin Keegan's team but Norwegian striker Egil Ostenstad salvaged a 1-1 tie and a replay with a goal a minute from the end.

At West Ham, Jason Smith headed Swansea ahead but the Hammers gained a tie with a 30-meter strike by veteran Julian Dicks three minutes from the end.

It looked bad for Newcastle when Irish international goalkeeper Shay Given was sent off for handling the ball outside his area in the14th minute and Lee Bradbury headed Palace in front four minutes later.

But goals by Gary Speed and Alan Shearer for short-handed Newcastle earned a victory for Ruud Gllit's team.

Elsewhere it more or less went according to plan for the Premier League teams.

Stan Collymore scored twice and set up another for Julian Joachim as the Premier League's top club, Aston Villa, outclassed Hull, last in division three, on a 3-0 score at Villa Park.

Tottenham fell behind after only 40 seconds to Graham Taylor's division two Watford at White Hart Lane but hit back to win 5-2. The halftime score was 4-2.

Player-manager Gianluca Vialli scored two late goals as Chelsea won 2-0 at division two Oldham, Ibrahima Bakayoko hit two in the final three minutes for Everton in a 2-0 win at Bristol City and Coventry overwhelmed division two Macclesfield 7-0 at Highfield Road helped by three goals by Darren Huckerby.

Wimbledon edged division three Manchester City 1-0 but ended up with nine men on the field after the expulsions of goalscorer Carl Cort and Jason Euell. Cort and City's Andy Morrison were sent off for a flareup that also involved several other players at Selhurst Park.

Leicester overpowered division one Birmingham 4-2 and Derby scored a 3-0 win at division three Plymouth at Home Park with two strikes by Jamaican World Cup player Deon Burton.

In a matchup of two Premier League clubs, Blackburn downed Charlton 2-0 with goals by Kevin Davies and Jason Wilcox.

Another Premier League confrontation takes place Sunday when Manhester United takes on Middlesbrough at Old Trafford. Liverpool goes to Port Vale and Sheffield Wednesday hosts another division one club, Norwich.

On Monday, defending titlist Arsenal goes to division two Preston.

Match Reports:

Aston Villa 3 Hull 0 (1-0)

Stan Collymore, replacing injured Dion Dublin on the starting lineup, shot home from Steve Watson's pass in the final minute of the first half and, six minutes into the second, provided the pass for Julian Joachim to make it 2-0. Collymore added his third in the 67th by firing home a cross from Joachim.

Blackburn 2 Charlton 0 (1-0)

Kevin Davies scored with a low shot right on half time after Charlton defenders Eddie Youds and Carl Tiler had left him clear in a defensive mix-up. Jason Wilcox added the second two minutes from the end from a cross by Keith Gillespie as Rovers made it six games without a defeat under new manager Brian Kidd.

Bristol City 0 Everton 2 (0-0)

With a replay looking likel, Ibrahima Bakayoko hit the first with a 25-meter free kick three minutes from the end. Then he took a pass from Tony Grant, rounded a defender and shot home for the second.

Coventry 7 Macclesfield 0 (3-0)

Steve Froggatt fired home from close range in the 28th minute and Noel made it 2-0 in the 36th. Right on half time, Macclesfield defender Steve Payne deflected a cross from Froggatt into his own net. Darren Huckerby scored the first of his three in the 62nd minute, added the fifth in the 71st and Dutch midfielder George Boateng scored the sixth with two minutes to go and Huckerby netted his third in the final seconds.

Leicester 4 Birmingham 2 (2-1)

Full backs Frank Sinclair and Robbie Ullathorne gave Leicester a two-goal advantage with strikes in the 20th and 26th minutes before Steve Robinson replied for the visitor before half time. Veteran striker Tony Cottee made it 3-1 in the 51sth and Steve Guppy added the fourth with 20 minutes to go. Dele Adebola scored a second for Birmingham in the final minute.

Newcastle 2 Crystal Palace 1 (0-1)

Irish international goalkeeper Shay Given was sent off in the 14th minute for deliberate handball outside his area. Four minutes later Lee Bradbury headed Palace in front from Clint Morrison's cross. Three minutes into the second half, Warren Barton drove a free kick into the Palace area and Gary Speed fired it in for the leveller. The winner came in the 69th minute from Alan Shearer who chested down a cross from Barton and fired home.

Nottingham Forest 0 Portsmouth 1 (0-1)

Steve Claridge collected a pass from Jeff Peron in the 17th minute and fired what proved to be the winner at the second attempt after his first shot was blocked.

Oldham 0 Chelsea 2 (0-0)

Gianluca Vialli caught Oldham defender Stuart Thom in possession and scored with a 20meter shot in the 68th minute. Seven minutes later the Chelsea player-manager tapped the ball in from close range from a cross by Bjarne Goldbaek.

Plymouth 0 Derby 3 (0-2)

Deon Burton gave the Rams a 15th minute lead when he headed in a cross from Dean Sturridge. Stefano Eranio made it 2-0 from the penalty spot in the 21st minute after Plymouth defender Paul Wotton had brought Sturridge down. Eranio hit the post from another penalty in the second half but Burton added the third eight minutes from the end.

Southampton 1 Fulham 1 (0-1)

Steve Hayward fired Fulham ahead in the ninth minute after Geoff Horsfield had touched on a cross from Barry Hayles. Saints defender Ken Monkou was sent off for a foul on Rufus Brevett 20-minutes from the end but the home team managed to level a minute from the end when Egil Ostenstad, lying on the ground, manage to sweep the ball home after Fulham substitute Paul Trollope had inadvertently blocked team-mate Alan Neilson's intended clearance.

Tottenham 4 Watford 2 (4-2)

Richard Johnson gave Watford the lead after 40 seconds after Mika Hyde had fired against the crossbar. Steffen Iversen leveled in the 11th minute from Darren Anderton's cross and Anderton made it 2-1 from the penalty spot two minutes later after handball by Steve Palmer. Iversen fired home in the 20th minute from Anderton's corner but Watford's Peter Kennedy headed home a cross for 3-2 in the 34th minute. It was 4-2 just before half time with Allan Nielsen's low, 20-meter shot. Surprisingly there was only one goal after the break, Ruel Fox netting from six meters with three minutes to go from Iversen's cross.

West Ham 1 Swansea 1 (0-0)

Jason Smith headed Swansea ahead from Stuart Roberts' cross in the 61st minute. The Hammers seemed on the way out but Julian Dicks fired a 30-meter shot under the body of Swansea goalkeeper Roger Freestone in the 87th.

Wimbledon 1 Manchester City 0 (0-0)

Second half substitute Carl Cort scored the only goal of the game in the 62nd after City failed to clear a corner and was sent off 12 minutes later. Cort and City's Andy Morrison were expelled for a midfield flare-up that started a free-for-all among several players. Jason Euell also sent off five minutes from the end for a second yellow card.
