MARSEILLE, France (AP) -- Olympique Marseille wants to buy Arsenal's French striker Nicolas Anelka, the club's president said in an interview published Friday in France Football magazine.

"Anelka interests Marseille," Jean-Louis Dreyfuss said, adding that Marseille would pay up to 100 million francs ($17 million) for the 19-year-old.

But Dreyfuss conceded that Marseille would find it tough to pay Anelka a competitive salary and gave only a 10 percent chance that a deal would go through.

Anelka, in brilliant goalscoring form for Arsenal and France, has recently said that he is unhappy with life in London and would be interested in a move to France or Spain.

Anelka told the magazine that Marseille is a "beautiful town, a superb team."

"I am very flattered and happy that OM is interested in me," he said. "But I still have four years of my contract at Arsenal and for the moment I am fine there," he said.
