COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Danielle Fotopoulos scored two goals as the U.S. women's soccer team beat South Korea 5-0 Sunday in its opening match of the U.S. Women's Cup '99 tournament.

Brazil got two goals and an assist from Roseli and beat Finland 3-1 in the first game of the doubleheader.

Fotopoulos scored from 10 yards out on a pass from Tisha Venturini in the 82nd minute and then scored again in the 90th minute after Tiffeny Millbrett found her unguarded.

The victory was the 23rd of the year for the team, breaking its 1998 record for wins.

The team lived up to its status as World Cup champions by dominating every aspect and outshooting South Korea 35-2 overall and 17-1 in shots on goal.

Shannon MacMillan found Cindy Parlow on a corner kick in the 10th minute to open the scoring. Parlow, who at 5-foot-11 is 5 inches taller than South Korea's tallest defender, headed the ball past Ho Jung Jung.

MacMillan got her second assist of the game when she sent a pass to the feet of Mia Hamm, who scored on a hard shot from 8 yards out in the 36th minute. It was the 112th career goal for Hamm, who missed a 6-0 victory over Brazil last month with a strained hamstring.

Milbrett made it 3-0 just before halftime on an assist by Julie Foudy.

A rowdy sellout crowd of 23,101 watched the United States improve its record to 101-8-8 in five years under coach Tony DiCicco.

Fans kept chanting "USA" as the host team dominated play and kept South Korea inside its half of the field for most of the game. Many of the spectators had their faces and hair painted red, white and blue.

Jung finished with 12 saves, while Tracy Ducar of the United States needed to make just one, on a weak header by Yun Je Choi in the 17th minute.

Brazil's Roseli lifted a long shot over the head of goalkeeper Satu Kunnas and it went just under the crossbar with seconds left in the first half to put Brazil up 2-0. Roseli scored again in the 78th minute, making it 3-1.

The Brazilians outshot Finland 30-6 and led 15-4 in shots on goal.

The second round of the tournament will be at Kansas City, Mo., on Thursday when Brazil plays South Korea and Finland plays the United States.
