Ronaldo to miss action with injury

MILAN, Italy (AP) -- Ronaldo sprained his right knee during Internazionale of Milan's Serie A match Sunday and could be sidelined two months, the latest in a string of setbacks for the star striker.

The two-time FIFA World Player of the Year twisted his leg when his cleats got caught in the wet turf at San Siro Stadium as he tried to beat a defender early in the second half of Inter's 6-0 victory over Lecce.

Ronaldo left the match and was taken to a doctor's office.

Inter coach Marcello Lippi downplayed the extent of the injury after the match, but the club later said Ronaldo suffered a slight tear of a knee tendon and an ankle sprain. He likely will need a month of rest plus a month of rehabilitation.

The 23-year-old Brazilian has been in and out of Inter's lineup each of the past two seasons with a variety of injuries, mostly to his knees. Over that span, he has appeared in 25 of a possible 44 matches.

Before leaving Sunday's game, Ronaldo had converted a penalty kick for his third goal of the season.

Ronaldo's woes date back to last year's World Cup. He was hospitalized the day of the final and initially scratched from the starting lineup -- then put back in. He played poorly as Brazil lost to France 3-0.
