Feyenoord finds replacement for Beenhakker
Posted: Thursday December 09, 1999 12:14 PM
Fortuna Sittard coach Bert van Marwijk will replace Leo Beenhakker at Dutch champion Feyenoord on a two-year contract at the end of the season.
Marwijk, in charge of Fortuna for the past two years, takes up his new post on July 1 after Beenhakker, 57, said recently that he was not interested in coaching the side next season.
FORMER BRAZILIAN STAR TONINHO DIES
Former Brazilian international defender Toninho has died suddenly from a brain hemorrhage at his home town of Itaparica.
Toninho, or Antonio Dias dos Santos to use his full name, was 51.
The high point of his career was playing in the 1978 World Cup finals in Argentina. Two years later, he won the Brazilian championship with Flamengo Rio.
PERUZOVIC SACKED BY CHARLEROI
Charleroi's Luka Peruzovic has become the fifth Belgian First Division coach to lose his job this season.
The Croatian was dismissed after the struggling club, who have never won a trophy in their 95-year history, lost four out of eight matches to slide down to 12th in the table.
Peruzovic will be replaced by Raymond Mommens, who takes a major coaching position for the first time in his career.
LEICESTER TO BREAK TRANSFER RECORD
Leicester are poised to break their transfer record by signing Darren Eadie from first division Norwich for three million pounds ($5m).
Martin O'Neill, coach of the English Premiership club, previously worked with Eadie during a short spell at Norwich earlier in his career.
The signing of the 25-year-old striker would smash Leicester's previous record of 2.5 million pounds, paid to Chelsea for defender Frank Sinclair 18 months ago.
