(CNN text) -- Corinthians' Colombian captain Freddy Rincon virtually admitted that his defence-minded side had played for penalties against Vasco da Gama in Friday's final in Rio de Janeiro.
The Sao Paulo side added the inaugural world crown to their Brazilian title, beating Rio's Vasco 4-3 on penalties after holding them to a dull 0-0 draw. And Rincon said: 'The match went exactly how we had planned it. I was always thinking we would win and I never lost this sentiment.'
PERUGIA'S PAGOTTO BANNED FOR DRUG USE
Perugia goalkeeper Angelo Pagotto has been suspended indefinitely by the Italian Football League after testing positive for cocaine. Pagotto failed a drugs test after a Serie A match between Perugia and Fiorentina on 21 November. A further analysis at an International Olympic Committee laboratory in Lausanne confirmed the first test. The former AC Milan and Sampdoria player denies using the drug.
WILTORD SEEKS MOVE TO ENGLAND
Bordeaux striker Sylvain Wiltord hopes to move to England at the end of the season, despite renewing his contract with the French champions last season. The 25-year-old international who was the leading scorer in France last season told French newspaper L'Equipe he hoped to be released in June. 'I want to see what I can do somewhere else, to reach new heights,' said Wiltord. 'I'm dreaming about England. I like the way they play and the money is also something to take into account.'
MPs WANT SHEFFIELD MANAGER SACKED
Four local Members of Parliament have called for Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Wilson to be fired. Education Minister David Blunkett joined fellow MPs Joe Ashton, Clive Betts and Bill Michie in criticising Dave Richards, chairman of the English Premiership's bottom club, for standing by Wilson. 'Any other Premiership club would have sacked the manager by now,' said Betts. 'When you are looking pretty certain to be relegated you look at all options.'
