ROME (AP) -- Ronaldo, making his return following a five-month layoff caused by an injury, hurt his right knee again Wednesday night and was carried off the field during Internazionale of Milan's game at Lazio.

Just seven minutes after entering the game at Olympic Stadium, the Brazilian forward fell to the ground and shouted in pain when his knee apparently twisted as he tried to outdribble an opponent.

He was taken off on a stretcher, in tears, as the crowd applauded.

"We are afraid it may be the same tendon operated last November," Inter general manager Gabriele Oriali said.

Ronaldo, the FIFA world player of the year in 1996 and 1997, came in as a substitute in the 59th minute, his first game action since he tore a right knee ligament Nov. 21 against Lecce. He had surgery nine days later.

He made a few moves and was fouled by defender Fernando Couto in the initial minutes. He collapsed, without being hit or pressed.

"I'm really sorry for Ronaldo and for Inter. Without doubt he's a very unlucky player," Lazio coach Sven Goran Eriksson said.

This was just Ronaldo's eighth game of the season.

Wednesday night's game was the opener of the home-and-home Italian Cup final, and Lazio won 2-1 on goals by Pavel Nedved and Diego Simeone.
