| David Seaman |
Arsenal Born: 9/19/63 Hometown: Rotherham |
| Widely regarded as one of the best keepers of his generation, Seaman broke Jack Kelsey's Arsenal record of 353 appearances for a goalkeeper in 1998/99.He has played more than 600 League games for his four clubs and represented his country more than 50 times.Seaman was actually sold by his first club, Leeds United, as an 18-year-old. After spells at Peterborough and Birmingham, Seaman began to get noticed whilst at QPR.Arsenal eventually bought the Rotherham-born keeper in 1990 for a then record fee for a goalkeeper of £1.3million.Throughout the 1990's he has been a solid presence as the Gunners' last line of defence, and after a topsy-turvy 1997/98 he successfully fought off the challenge of Alex Manninger to keep hold of the keeper's jersey. There has though been continued speculation that the England international was on his way out of Highbury. But despite a great deal of adverse publicity during the 1999/2000 term Seaman went to Euro 2000 with his country and appears to be still regarded as the first choice keeper at Arsenal. |
