| A Swedish international with two full caps, the strong- running and bustling Scandinavian striker has found it difficult to win over the fans at The Valley since arriving from cash-strapped Crystal Palace in the 1999/2000 season.Prior to being at Selhurst Park the one-time Innsbruck player found life equally as tough on the south coast with Portsmouth.His partnership at the First Division club alongside Australian-born forward John Aloisi began successfully in the 1997/98 season. He scored on four occasions in his first five matches for Pompey, but his form dipped at Fratton Park and he ended up being a fringe player.A transfer to London led to a short period at hard-up Palace before he crossed the capital and subsequently joined The Addicks' promotion run-in. Svensson has a deceptive style and is highly-regarded by his fellow professionals as a frontrunner who will take the knocks while rarely receiving the plaudits. |
