| Gary Kelly |
Leeds Born: 7/09/74 Hometown: Drogheda |
| Gary Kelly, the youngest of a family of 13, played his first season for Leeds in 1993-94 when Howard Wilkinson tried him out at right-back.He soon became known as the flying full-back with his regular dashes down the wing.In 1994 he was a part of Jack Charlton's Eire squad that went to the World Cup in America, and has been an international regular to date.Kelly switched from right-back to right midfield in season 1997-98 which seemed to refresh his appetite for the game. Unfortunately he suffered from shin splint problems, which ruled him out for the whole of the 1998-99 campaign.Kelly returned to fitness in the 1999-2000 season, when he was soon back to his best. He took over the captaincy from Lucas Radebe when the South African was away on international duty, a sure sign of Kelly's renewed progress and maturity. |
