| Lucas Radebe is one of the Premiership's top defenders, and he regularly makes last-ditch tackles that have kept Leeds in the winning frame so often.His ability to read the game and smother the opposition's dangermen so well with his man-to-man marking skills has earned him worldwide recognition following his impressive displays for South Africa.Radebe secured his future at Leeds with a four-year extension to his contract taking him to December 2002.The South African's first two years at the club were littered with injury problems and he failed to show his real potential, but since then he has gone from strength to strength and gained the respect of his team-mates as their captain.Those early Leeds career injuries reared their ugly head once more in the 2000/2001 season, with two nasty aerial collisions causing the big defender problems.In the Champions League game in Barcelona during September, Radebe was carried off unconcious and looked to have suffered a serious kneck injury.Fortunately, he was given the all-clear after a scan, but a short time afterwards in a Premiership match against Tottenham, a nasty clash of heads with Les Ferdinand led to a similar outcome. His absence was felt by a Leeds side dependent upon the organisational and inspirational qualities of one of the best defender's in the Premier League. |
